What EPA Registration Actually Means
The US Environmental Protection Agency runs a registration programme for disinfectants, sanitisers and antimicrobial products. A registered product has been evaluated for effectiveness against named organisms and reviewed for safety when used as the label directs.
Registration is a legal requirement before such a product can be sold in the United States. The EPA explains the process in its guide to pesticide registration, and publishes lists of registered disinfectants.
The EPA is a US regulator, but its standards are recognised by hospitals, hotels and institutional clients around the world, including in Hong Kong.
